This website specifically addresses the HESI-RN Exit Exam. However, if your school uses a different testing company, we strongly advise that you get some experience answering HESI questions to prepare for your test.
The practice with HESI questions will help you become a very savvy test taker you will learn to read each question twice and know exactly what its asking before you consider the possible answers.
Success on all pre-NCLEX tests requires that you know content, think critically, follow the careful process of elimination and learn to be deliberate and take your time.
This website can help you to accomplish this.

1. How does the HESI-RN Exit Exam compare to the HESI-PN Exit Exam?
Our test-taking tips apply directly to the HESI-PN Exit Exam. Both the RN and PN tests require you to navigate through the HESI style, which is extensively covered in our HESI Exam Review Guide.
The material that will be covered in the HESI-PN Exit Exam is similar to the first semesters of the typical RN curriculum. If you choose HESI-RN questions that focus on the skills areas that are being tested in your PN classes, you will improve your test-taking abilities dramatically.

2. How does the HESI-RN Exit Exam compare to the ATI Comprehensive Predictor Exam?
The ATI Comprehensive Predictor Exam is written in a more straightforward style than the HESI, and is more similar to the NCLEX. The 180 questions typically on the ATI reportedly lean heavily toward the areas of management, priority, delegation and psychology. Students who have successfully passed the ATI Comprehensive Exam recommend taking many practice tests and learning the rationales.
When you prepare to take the ATI Exam by practicing with HESI-RN questions, you will strengthen your understanding of the subject because HESI constantly challenges your clinical judgment and your knowledge of priority actions. HESI questions will also teach you to analyze the scenario carefully because often more than one answer listed is correct and you must choose the most correct answer.

3. How does the HESI-RN Exit Exam compare to the NLN Exams?
The National League for Nursing (NLN) also offers several variations of NCLEX prep tests. The NLN web page at http://dev.nln.org/testproducts/pas_gradnurse.htm describes each test. On this website, students can purchase a non-proctored package to use as a practice test to identify the areas that need more attention.
In a review of 67 studies, the authors found that nursing theory course scores and National League for Nursing (NLN) Achievement Test scores appeared to be among the best predictors of NCLEX success.
Although the questions and tips as found on this website are geared towards the Hesi Exit exam, it is not a bad idea to also use HESI-RN questions when preparing for your NLN exam. If you can successfully answer the HESI questions, you will be able to navigate the most difficult NLN question guaranteed.

Conclusion
The Hesi Exit Exams, ATI Comprehensive Predictors and NLN exams all try and mimic the actual NCLEX exam. These tests are designed to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses in each testing area and suggest areas to review to help prepare you for the actual NCLEX. Unfortunately, many schools require their students to pass these practice exams in order to undertake the NCLEX and graduate. New nurses have often reported these prep tests to be more difficult then the actual NCLEX.
It seems that the most valuable function these tests serve is to identify where you need to concentrate your learning skills for passing the NCLEX and what areas your school should improve in the nursing curriculum.
Your preparation for any of these tests can and will be improved by working with HESI-RN practice questions. These questions will teach you to slow down, to read between the lines and analyze the question, to learn all of your lab values and medications, and to apply accurate clinical judgment.
The most recent third party evaluation of the HESI test model claims that students who score high on the HESI-RN have a 98% chance of passing the NCLEX on the first try. So even if your school uses another exam format, practice with the HESI-RN questions will give you a testing advantage for the test that counts the most the NCLEX.
